🧹 ROI of 69x on cold email !!
Your best marketing source
Hey everyone !
Last week, my partners and I spent three days working on our strategic planning for next year.
Being responsible for Marketing and Business Development, I reviewed last year’s performance, and I was beyond surprised by the ROI each marketing source brought us.
ROI:
Google Ads: 1.95x
Cold email: 69x
Golf tournaments: 0.95x
Holy shit!! 69x?? I knew cold email had been a great lead source this year, but I never imagined it would have such a massive positive ROI.
But thinking about it, it made sense. The cost for the year was just under $2,000, while it generated $300,000 in ARR.
Pretty incredible, right?
And on top of that, I got lazy and reduced the volume of emails we sent out a few months ago, so this isn’t even for a full year.
Next year, we’ll definitely double down on this marketing strategy.
For your information, this method works especially well in our locations that aren’t major cities, where ads don’t perform as strongly. So, if you're in a city with a population of less than 300-400k, I highly encourage you to prioritize this marketing technique.
Here is what I concluded for our other marketing sources ;
For ads, we expected not to have a massive ROI since they’re quite expensive. We did generate a bit more revenue than with cold email, but the cost was around $60,000 for the year. Still, it’s a fully automated and very consistent source of marketing, so I’m quite satisfied with the result, and we’ll keep running these ads next year.
As for golf tournaments, looking at the ROI alone, we could be disappointed. However, it’s important to remember that these tournaments target big clients. The leads we gained there were primarily for contracts worth $3 million or more per year. These are long shots, and the sales cycle is very lengthy. The day I close just one of these deals, the ROI will skyrocket to 1000x, as the cost remains quite low (around $1,000 per tournament).
Lastly, an interesting point to note is that our biggest increase (about $1 million in ARR) came from expanding partnerships with our existing clients, who gave us new branches or offices.
This proves that growth can be customer-led and focusing on the quality of operations is often a cost-effective growth strategy to implement.
