How New Commercial Cleaning Owner Can Avoid the 5 Costly Mistakes Keeping Them from 6-Figure Profits

Critical Lessons for New Commercial Cleaning Entrepreneurs to Grow a Thriving, Profitable Business

Hello friends !

Starting something new in life leads to mistakes.

This is normal, but it doesn’t mean it’s fun.

It also doesn’t mean we should avoid them.

Here are the top 5 mistakes new commercial cleaning owners make:

  1. Only going for the small contract.

Small contracts are less stressful but not worth the effort vs output. One bad cleaning and one credit can eat months of profit. Your vacuum breaks? Three months of profit gone.

You’ll quickly learn that in commercial cleaning, managing a $500/month contract requires the same effort as a $5k/month contract.

  1. Taking on all clients, regardless of fit.

As a new business owner, you chase revenue and agree to every opportunity.

Once, we accepted a Lowe’s job that needed 8 hours of cleaning, but we only had two hours because they were placing product all night. So, we’d come in 2 hours before opening with a team of 4. If anyone didn’t show up we were screwed.

Saying yes to that contract will destroy your ability to grow and onboard new contracts and your peace of mind.

  1. Neglecting Employee Onboarding

As we are overwhelmed by managing our business as new owners, we often move from one contract to another. We have a good hiring process but rely on hope for their performance, risking contract loss. Employees need training, whether through video or on-site coaching during their first shift.

If you can’t do both, do AT LEAST what we suggest in the next mistake.

  1. No quality inspection.

Do you want to keep your client long-term and happy? If so, regular quality inspections are a must. It’s crucial for operational excellence.

It took us too long to realize this, but once we implemented it, our churn rate dropped significantly.

If you can’t coach them , at least be present for quality inspection during most of his first month clean. This way you can be proactive on any problems.

  1. Not asking for 15 net.

Cashflow is king ! You’ve heard that before, right ?

In commercial cleaning, it’s even more true. 70% of your revenue goes directly to payroll. Every 2 weeks, 70% of your revenue leaves your bank account.

What if you receive your money 30 days after the service?

You’ll pay 2x your employees before receiving 1$.

You won’t be able to make payroll at some point, especially if you’re growing quickly.

The more successful you are, the more cashflow problems you’ll have.

You NEED to ask your client to pay you on the 15th of each month so you only have 1 payroll before receiving your money.

Avoiding these mistakes will be a game-changer for your business.
